A dock and elevator lift still faultless at two and a half years

A new dock and elevator lift, wired under Mariner's own electrical license — and a direct comparison with a neighbor's competitor-installed lift.

The situation

Boat lifts in salt water fail early when the electrical is done badly. Stray current causes electrolysis that eats hardware from the inside, and the owner usually only sees the symptom.

What we did

Dock and elevator lift installed as one job with the electrical done in-house under license EC13015118, rather than subcontracted to an electrician who has not worked over water.

How it ended

Two and a half years on, no issues — while a neighbor's lift, installed by another contractor a year earlier, had already been replaced due to electrolysis from an improper electrical install.

A neighbor used another contractor about a year prior and already had to replace his lift due to excessive electrolysis. This was due to an improper electrical install. I have had none of those problems. Even my decking still looks new whereas my neighbor's decking has faded and looks 20 years old.
