Sizing it properly
The single most common mistake we are called to fix is a lift sized to the boat's dry weight. Your boat does not weigh its dry weight. Add fuel, water, batteries, ground tackle, a tower, the cooler that never comes off and the gear in every locker, and the real number is meaningfully higher.
We recommend a capacity at least 20–25% above the boat's fully loaded weight. That margin is not padding — it is what keeps cables, motors and bunks from working at their limit every single cycle, which is what makes them last.
What the install involves
Before anything is ordered, we evaluate water depth, dock configuration and tide variations at your property.
- Assessment: vessel weight, beam, water depth, tide range and dock structure
- New pilings driven where the existing structure will not carry the load
- Lift assembly and setting — elevator, cradle, four-post or PWC
- Motors, cables, sheaves, bunks and cradle set to the hull
- Electrical, controls, remotes and drip trays under license EC13015118
- Load testing with your boat, and a walkthrough of the controls
Timeline
Standard installation time depends on the model, dock structure and site conditions. New pilings, electrical work or special permitting add time, and the expected sequence should be confirmed in the proposal.

How long does boat lift installation take?
Standard installs take 1–3 days depending on the model, dock structure and site conditions. New pilings, electrical work or special permitting extend that.
Can you install a lift on my existing dock?
Often, yes — but only if the structure and pilings will carry the load. That is the first thing we check, and if the existing pilings will not take it we will tell you what driving new ones adds rather than quietly bolting to something that will not hold.
