When a floating dock is the right call
A fixed dock is set at one height. That works where the tide range is modest and predictable. Where the range is larger, a fixed deck ends up too high to step onto at low water and too close to it at high — which is uncomfortable at best and unsafe when you are handing gear or children across.
A floating dock rides the water, so the step down to your boat is the same at any hour. It is also the practical choice for kayaks, paddleboards and jet skis, where getting in and out at water level matters more than deck height.

Questions
Can a floating dock connect to my existing fixed dock?
Yes — a hinged gangway from the fixed structure or the seawall cap to the float is the usual arrangement. The gangway length is driven by your tide range; too short and it becomes steep at low water.
How do floating docks handle storms?
They ride rising water, which is an advantage in surge, but they depend entirely on the guide piles holding. We size those piles for storm conditions rather than everyday loads, and we will tell you what to do with the float ahead of a named storm.
