Apollo Beach sits on a residential canal — Tampa Bay and Apollo Beach canals. The most common waterfront in Southwest Florida, and the most forgiving to build on — provided the wall behind you is sound.

Canal docks are typically fixed, because the tide range is modest and a fixed deck height works all day. The constraint is usually width — how far you can project without crowding the channel or a neighbor.

Work in Apollo Beach is permitted through Hillsborough County Development Services. Building permits are required for docks, lifts and seawalls. Tampa Bay frontage and the Alafia and Little Manatee rivers each carry their own considerations.
